After competing at Intercollegiate Dressage Association (IDA) Nationals April 10-13 in Chatham, Va., Virginia Intermont College celebrates winning the 2014 IDA National Championship with smiles, hugs and a few happy tears. It marks the fourth IDA national championship for VI, having previously taken team wins in 2006, 2007 and 2010.

The 2014 competition was hosted by Averett University at Olde Dominion Agricultural Complex. Virginia Intermont and several other southeastern colleges brought in college-owned horses for the event. Otterbein University received National Reserve Champion, followed by Mount Holyoke College in third place.

In addition to the overall team championship for VI, on team competition day, Nick Martino and Courtney Vesel won their classes, and Martino was the high point rider for the entire show.  In individual competition, Kelly Barnes took the championship in the Intro division.

As champions, the VI equestrians each will receive a custom fit saddle from event sponsor Custom Saddlery.

Congratulations Virginia Intermont riders and coaches!
