Two outstanding Virginia Intermont students enrolled in the Interdisciplinary Studies/Evening Weekend College program of the Education Department have been awarded scholarships for continuing their education studies. Mary Darlene “Dee” Halstead (Bristol) and Heather Castle (Scott County) were each awarded $1000 scholarships by the local chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.
Promoting professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education, Alpha Zeta Chapter (whose membership is made up of educators from the city of Bristol and Washington and Scott Counties) presented these ladies with their scholarships at their meeting on May 4, 2013.
Delta Kappa Gamma Society International/ Iota State (VA) also presents the annual Virginia Scholars Award to an outstanding Virginia Intermont student entering the field of education. The 2013 awardee from Virginia Intermont College is Hannah Ste. Marie. Hannah received a certificate and a book by Harry Wong, and will have her name added to the plaque which hangs in the VI education department’s glass case.
