Sports enthusiasts choose Sport Management because it combines their athletic interests with a career in a related industry. Sport Management is a multidisciplinary field that involves the behind-the-scenes business operations of the multibillion-dollar sports industry. The B.S. degree comprehensively examines the industry – from legal, financial, managerial and marketing angles.
Although Sport Management is emerging as one of the College’s most popular degree programs, class sizes are small and students often work one-on-one with faculty. Numerous guest speakers are invited each semester, including highly respected sport leaders, general managers, athletic recruiters and sports program directors.
Our program emphasizes experiential learning and encourages participation in internships which provide opportunities to work with a professional director in the administration, programming, or leadership areas of sport management. In past years, our students have worked for NASCAR, Major League Baseball, YMCA, NFL Sport Agency and Cal Ripken Baseball. The Sport Management and Physical Education Seminar provide field experience with opportunities to observe and learn from respected managers and educators in the industry. Each semester, tours of local facilities such as the Bristol Motor Speedway are an integral part of student learning.
