Photography & Digital Imaging
Edward Steichen called photography a “major force.” At Virginia Intermont, you will begin learning how to control and understand that force early in the program. From your first semester on, you will benefit from specialized courses and workshops that allow you to experience the natural beauty of the Southern mountains, the U.S. Western landscapes, and the musical heritage of the Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion, one of the Southeast’s top musical events.
Through the VI Photo & Digital Imaging program, you will follow in the footsteps of Pulitzer Prize winner and VI photo alumna, Preston Gannaway, building your skills in black and white, color and digital photography while promoting the development of personal vision. With these visual and technical skills, you are prepared for success in the commercial, fine art and digital areas of the industry.
Areas of Concentration and Degree Programs:
The B.F.A. and B.A. degrees craft your success with major courses ranging from Photographer’s Vision and Intro to Digital Photography to Traditional Processes and Electronic Media. While both tracks include coursework from various other departments, the B.F.A. refines the learning experience with additional in-depth photo electives and art history courses. A Photography & Digital Imaging minor is also available.
