Virginia Intermont College Department of Theatre will hold open auditions for the delightful musical comedy, “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” conceived by Rebecca Feldman, music & lyrics by William Finn, book by Rachel Sheikin with additional material by Jay Reiss. Boasting six Tony nominations and two wins, including Best Book, the musical is described on their website: “ This hilarious tale of overachievers’ angst chronicles the experience of six adolescent outsiders vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime . . . a quirky yet charming cast of outsiders for whom a spelling bee is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time.” They also learn that “winning isn’t everything and losing doesn’t necessarily make you a loser.”
Auditions are open to anyone 16 years of age or older and will be held January 20 and 21 at 6:00 pm in the Ann Worrell Fine Arts Center on the VI campus. Roles are available for five men and four women. No preparation or prior experience is required. Participants will sing, do cold readings from the script and learn a short dance audition. Performances dates are April 10-13, 2014. For more information contact Bonny Gable at 276-466-7973 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
