The Age-Old, Old-Age Chair Challenge

It’s not polite to ask a lady her age - especially if she shows it. So we
hesitate to mention that our Dining Hall is over 100 and showing her age. Although over the years she has had some partial “facelifts,” our Dining Hall has never received a complete makeover.

Now, thanks to the generosity of Anne ROWELL Worrell, ‘39 and with design input from Susie WILSON Walling, ‘80, the makeover started during the summer of 2001. It is not merely aesthetics being served by the renovations. Over the years, some structural damage has occurred. With the improvements, the Dining Hall will reflect her age with a sense of grace and style and a touch of Victorian ambiance.

The President’s Dining Room, although not nearly a century old, is used for special occasions so it must also be elegant. The area will receive the attention it needs to put its “best face forward.” BUT (isn’t there always a but) there are not enough funds to cover all the improvements. SO?..the Local and National Alumni Associations are offering assistance, and they are making a special appeal to alumni and friends to “buy a chair” for this room. Members Marge HARLAN Olson ‘48, Mary COOMER Davis ‘47, and Cathy Olson Shuttle ‘98ADS have already purchased one, and their names will be placed on “their” chairs. Marge, Mary and Cathy are issuing a challenge to others to own a chair for a donation of $100. Please answer their challenge, buy a chair and make the transformation complete.
