Financial answers you're looking for
Q. Can I get an estimate of how much financial
aid is available to me?
A. Yes. You can use our Financial Aid Award Estimator to see what
programs you qualify for before you receive your official award
letter. This is a great tool in helping individuals realize that
Virginia Intermont College is the choice for them. Be aware that
this is ONLY AN ESTIMATE and is subject
to change.
Q. Can I file for financial aid online?
A. Yes. You can go to www.fafsa.ed.gov
to apply online. You are required to print and mail in a signature
sheet to ensure processing of your application.
Q. I applied for federal aid and was awarded a Stafford Loan. Is
there a separate application for the Stafford Loan?
A. Yes. Once you are awarded a loan, you must fill out a Master
Promissory Note to officially apply and receive funding from the
Stafford Loan Program.
Q. My parents are divorced. Do I report both of their incomes?
A. No. You report the income of the parent that has custody and
with whom you live. If the parent that you are reporting has remarried,
you must also report the income of their spouse/your step-parent.
Q. If I have some unusual circumstances that have taken place this
year, can you do anything to factor in those circumstances when
determining my eligibility for aid?
A. It depends on the circumstances. Financial aid counselors are
given the liberty to use their professional judgement. If they determine
that the circumstances should be used as a factor to determine eligibility,
then they can make certain adjustments. It is best to contact the
financial aid director to explain the criteria for unusual circumstances.
Q. After the first year, do I need to reapply for federal aid
every year?
A. Yes. Federal aid is determined based on prior year income, so
reapplying is required by the federal government
