The traditional concentration is designed for the
student who wishes to study literature and language for its cultural
and practical value or plans to continue study for the M. A. or
Ph. D. degree. Students are introduced to the various types and
periods of literature, the basic tools and skills of literary
study, and the fundamentals of clear, effective writing. Students
may appropriately combine the language and analytical skills gained
through an English major with a minor or second major to prepare
themselves for any number of careers in which those skills are
valued
