As
our society continues to become more electronic and computerized,
there is an increasing demand in the workforce for individuals
skilled and knowledgeable about the equipment that is required
to keep businesses and organizations running smoothly. The Computer
Information Management (CIM) major at Virginia Intermont is designed
to provide managerial skills combined with Internet technology
knowledge and expertise for today's fast paced, technologically
driven world.
The intent of the CIM major is to give
a broad and comprehensive foundation in the many aspects of information
technology so that our graduates may quickly enter the job market
trained in information technology and skilled in management.
The CIM major at VI is supported by
several computer labs that have recently been renovated and upgraded
to offer state-of-the-art technology. The primary lab for the
major is the PC Lab, a Windows-based microcomputer installation
equipped with 18 systems, printers and a projection system for
teaching.
Graduates of the CIM program at Intermont
leave the College with the ability to program a computer, design
a Web page, and have a solid understanding of operating systems,
databases and networks. CIM majors put in many hours of hard work
in order to keep abreast of the ongoing changes in the computer
industry, become proficient with current programs and remain on
the cutting edge of computer technology. Also, due to Intermont's
broad base of offerings, CIM majors can also study other related
areas such as graphic design and digital imaging.
